Stormbrazer

We still need someone to write a lil' piece about Stormbrazer.

If interested, just post on this topic.

For now.. you may find quite some information in the other posts in this topic.

My apologies.

Honestly, I don't know. You see, even though I'm in charge of the history section, I have almost no knowlegde about Stormbrazers history, whatsoever. I would really like to know about the history, but I don't have any reliable sources. What I currently need is a list of major events, something about the founding, and, if possible, some commentaries from old members to make the history look better, and more complete. As you can see, it is currently far from complete, and I would really be happy for any kind of info.

Regarding ArPking, Clan Principles, and Values, speech by the beloved Clan Founder Red aka Eil
QUOTE ('Red aka Eilorendil')
“A clan is a united group with a common cause.”

A group that doesn’t stand for anything, that doesn’t have anything in common, will easily fall apart. That has been the fate of many clans.

I have no clue what will become of Stormbrazer. But I’ve thought hard about it and I have three things I want us to stand for; three things that I hope will define my clan:

    * Friendship
    * Art
    * Anti-rpk'ing (anti-random player killing)

Friendship
I want these forums to be a place where people can feel welcome, discuss things in RS and in real life, learn, get to know eachother, become friends. Runescape turns into a whole different game when you have people whom you can regularly talk to, attend events and train your skills with. True, online friendships aren’t ‘real’. Nonetheless I have come to know people through the game who mean more to me than just pixels, and who I have come to respect as persons. It’s been a giving experience to befriend someone without any prejudice towards their gender or age. I wish this to be a clan where such experiences can be made. I want to host drop parties, snowball fights, bind races, raids, parades, bar crawls and games and have people turn up and have a fun time.

Art
Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not a hippie looking for people to cultivate. But I like to read, write, draw and make sigs and banners such as those you see on this forum. I like to listen to and play music.

Since I began playing Runescape a year ago I’ve met a lot of people on different forums who’re talented and interested in all areas. I’ve seen people learn about graphics and develop their skills in this area thanks to the encouragement of others. Perhaps all those can find a place here to display their work. I hope to get the time to teach away some of the little I can, and hope others will do the same.

If it turns out to be a complete failure and that no one is interested in any such thing whatsoever, we’re still left with the Friendship and Anti-pk’ing part.

(next part written by kronian)
Anti-PKing or more correctly, Anti-rPKing
What is Anti-rPKing?
What motivates an Anti-rPKer?
The Goals of Anti-rPKng
Arguments and Refutals
Credits

For simplicity, I will use the term "anti-pker" throughout this guide. For the uninitiated, PK’ing= playerkilling, pkers= playerkillers”.

The idea of organized apking was born by The Sabres, one of the first clans in Runescape. The concept was further developed to what it is today by Wilderness Guardians, who is now one of the top 20 clans in Runescape, and the top ranking apk clan. Their address is http://wildernessguardians.com

What is Anti-rPKing?

What is Anti-rPKing? Despite the common misconception, it is Not being opposed to PKing. It is absurd to assert that it is pacifistic in nature given the extremely violent nature of Anti-rPKing, more violent even than normal PKing, I dare say. Calling an Anti-rPKer(also known commonly as an Anti-Pker) a pacifist is to contradict the very nature of Anti-PKing.
Rather, Anti-PKing is the deliberate killing of PKers, and only PKers. Isn't it just PKing, you ask? Yes, with one major difference: who is killed. Most of us aren't in the wilderness to actively protect people. That the Wilderness is made safer by us attacking pk’ers is a consequence of what we do and not our goal.

What motivates an Anti-rPKer?
A variety of reasons motivate the Anti-PKer, some less noble than others. Those reasons are complex, and usually a combination of several of them determines who turns to Anti-pking and who doesn't. To paraphrase Red, who in turn, paraphrased His Lordship of the Wilderness Guardians,

QUOTE
It depends very much on the mindset of the individual that determines if they have PKing or Anti-PKing tendencies.

Below, I shall list and attempt to explain some of the more common reasons:

A sense of Honour: Like Samurai or Knights, the Anti-PKer may feel that it is unfair or dishonourable for him/her to attack and kill a defensceless opponent or an opponent who clearly is in no condition for battle and/or no chance of survival if fought against. It is also linked closely to the belief that fights should be kept within fighters and that innocents should not be killed.
Some hold themselves to a higher standard, while others, perhaps less noble, may feel that it is "beneath them to fight someone who poses no threat".

For Justice: In the Wilderness, anarchy reigns... Frequent instances of bullying, name-calling, backstabbing and clans like Damage Incorporated make the Wilderness a very scary place indeed. The Anti-PKer may feel obliged to stand up for the victims. After all, how fair is it that a coal or runite miner is killed just because he/she ventured there to mine ore? How fair is it that a low-level( and sometimes even average-leveled) player is cut down while exploring or getting runes for one simple reason: A person and/or Clan wanted some sport?
The Anti-Pker hopes to reduce such instances by reducing the number of PKers in the Wilderness for short periods of time. We do not hate the act of killing players, we do it ourselves. What we loathe is the act of people killing non-PKers for sport or out of sheer callousness. To quote once more from WG,

QUOTE
...the AntiPKer will question, "If a non-PKer has no intention of harm, why do you exert harm upon him?"

For a Greater Challenge: PKing is challenging and exhilerating. The thrill gained from a successful kill can be immense. However, this fades when all you kill are weak or unprepared players. The satisfaction of a job well-done is much better when the kill was hard, is it not?
As such, killing other Pkers offers a much greater challenge and reward. Also, what can be more satisfying than dueling an opponent where each side gives their all? Killing noobs is easy...Killing a player with similar prowess as you is much more difficult.

For Profit: Non-Pkers rarely venture deep or bring much gear. As such, it is a waste of effort and resources
to hunt them down. Furthermore, the large amount of PKers who randomly attack others deter people from venturing deeper or bringing more valuable gear. PKers in general, are well-equiped and thus provide a better alternative(profit-wise) to non-PKers( coal-miners, explorers etc...).

For Prestige: Some do this out of a desire to gain recognition. Being a successful PKer makes you feared and respected. Being a successful Anti-PKer gains you the respect and fear of PKers...as well as the gratitude of non-PKers who you have protected. Anti-PKing has become more recognized now with the rise and success of more Anti-Pk clans.

For Vengeance: Some players attach personal value to their items. It can be merely material: I value this because it cost me this much. I value this because I cannot afford to replace it. Or it can be sentimental: My friend gave this to me... Or, I've had it for a long time. A player may very well consider the old mithril scimitar he bore for twenty combat levels( like my brother! tongue2.gif ) as well nigh irreplaceable. like a much used personal artifact, strange as it may sound, the player forms an emotional attachment to it. These players may turn Anti-Pker as they feel wrathful that their items were lost to someone who arbitrarily chose to attack them. They may also wish to spare others of the same pain they underwent. Also, they may have known people who were victims of bullying and such and feel the wish to avenge their friends.

The Novelty of the Idea: People are drawn to radical ideas. While some do eventually embrace other tenants of Anti-PKing, I am of the opinion that these Anti-PKers do not last long.

Dissatisfaction with the Status Quo: Anti-PKers may feel dissatisfied with how PKing is done. He/she may not agree with how his/her clan leader or leaders do PKing.

The Goals of Anti-rPKing

Simple: To reduce the number of PKers in the Wilderness. To encourage more people to enter and go deeper into the Wild. To reduce bullying and random abuse. To show that the Wilderness need not be a wilderness where anarchy, and callousness reigns supreme. In short, not to "tame" the Wilderness...but to ensure that it does not degenerate into a place where bullying and other forms of abuse are rampant.

Not everyone has a goal with apking. Some like to pk, but dislike to attack “innocents”. These might be called “passive apkers”. There is also another type of apker. They do not belong to any clan, but roam the wilderness for pk’ers and the term they use on themselves are “avengers”. These I believe, are motivated primarily by vengeanance. They may not feel comfortable in an organised body like a clan, hence they wander alone, much like lone wolves. I have spoken to one such player. He said that the major distinction between an Avenger and an Anti-PKer is the relative freedom he perceives that he gets.

Arguments and Refutals(some really common-and annoying- ones.

1: You contradict yourselves when you call yourselves Anti-PKers.
A: We do not. We are not opposed to player-killing(PKing) at all. After all, that is one reason why RuneScape is so fun. Rather, we are opposed to the random killing of non-PKers. As mentioned earlier, "It is the belief that fights should be kept between fighters and only occasionally, a non-PKer is killed."

2: You just attack skulled people.
A: No. True, we will attack skulled players, only if we feel that there is sufficient reason to suggest that he is a PKer. A skulled coal-miner isn't a PKer. But a non-skulled player carrying full rune gear in the Wild most likely is a PKer.

3: You are trying to tame the Wilderness.
A: PvP( player vs player) combat is what makes the Wilderness...a wilderness. It is a means of allowing healthy competition between players. Is name-calling and bullying healthy? It is not. Jagex does ban players for offensive language in the Wilderness.

4. But how do you know a person’s a pk’er?
A: If he is skulled and armored, I'm in no doubt. If he has full armor on and hangs around doing nothing, I'm fairly sure. I can't always be right, but at least I don't attack all and everyone I see - why should I attack someone who's not going to drop anything valuable, who've never intended to harm anyone, who haven't done anything to provoke me?

Eilorendil's Leaving Speech
QUOTE ('Red aka Eilorendil')
In a couple of days from now, the position as clan leader will be going to makz 18. He'll be running things the way they are (+ a few promotions) and I hope you'll support him as you've supported me and SeNtia. If you do I know SB will continue for a long time ahead.

My leaving has nothing to do with SB, but my real life. I'm in my last year of high school and recently got a job that's taking 2-3 evenings every week. Combined with piano and taekwondo lessons, I simply don't have time to be as active as a leader should, which is the reason I've decided to step down. I realized this when I was prevented from coming to the clan anniversary - if anyone wondered, I was serving grumpy customers in a cafè at the time.

It's been a great year. I never imagined we'd make it this far, or that we would grow so big. I'm very proud of what we've achieved together. Perhaps it's just because I've been here since SB was born, but I can sincerely say it's the best clan I've ever been in. And that's counting almost 2 years worth of clan life.

For my part, it's not really a goodbye. I'll still check back from time to time as patron and I'll continue my activity on Sal's. It's just that it's a huge difference between leading SB and post 2-3 times a day.

I wish you all the best. Just hold on to the friendships you've made here, welcome the newbies and stick to the clan even when things go bad and you'll pull it through together.

SeNtia also has problems fitting the clan into his real life, so he too will become a patron. He'll probably want to say a few words, so I'll leave it at that.

If there are any practical questions I'll be glad to answer.

Makz Wrote:
QUOTE ('Makz')
Firstly, I'd like to that I'm honoured to be the new leader of this clan. Red has done a superb job, and I can only hope that I live up to the high standard she has set.

I'd like to say farewell to Akashima. He's been a great friend to all of us, and it is sad to see him go, but the choice is his, and I do not doubt that he has made the right one.

There are many promotion in the works, and two of these, I think, deserve a special mention now. Congratulations to both Tfcian and Kronian, who have both been promoted to the Hall of Command.

There are also some Senior members who can look forward to a promotion, and some members who may also have a promotion in the works, but keep in mind that asking me about it will automatically disqualify you from any promotions.

There are a few things I wish to address in the first month or so of my leadership:
with the recent departure of Kanopia, the clan is currently without a Raid Leader, I hope to appoint a new one by the end of September
create a new “event organizer” clan job, to add a bit of order to the clan events
appoint more diplomats, to create stronger relationships with our allies
re-write the alliance terms with VV, so that we can maintain our relationship, even when leadership changes

I hope you guys will support me as much as you supported red and aka.

Well, he seems like a reliable source. Former members of a clan that is gone can get information about that clan, easier than an outsider. Most likely they already know important parts of the story, which makes them even better.

And Lance, thank you for your current work. I can't wait for more from you.

Here is a link for Saradomins Chosen, the clan before Stormbrazers, which was a branch off of MMAPKers (Money makers against pkers), the original PK clan consisting of most of the forum viewers of Sal's Realm of Runescape, and included Salmoneus himself. Other branches like SIEGE and Forever Saradomin died off.

Hey Lance =) I obviously don't get on very much dry.gif Sorry
long time no see, anyway I'm posting here because it's vaguely relevant and cuz I can't post anywhere else... (unknown?...)

Good news, this summer I might be able to get back with the clan smile.gif though I will be working a lot because I'm going to be a manager at were I work, but I won't have anything other than work because I will have graduated by then tongue2.gif So I will hopefully be able to once again contribute to the clan.

See you soon... dry.gif laugh.gif

BTW, this thread is my only form of communication because I'm locked from everything else, including profile and PM. dry.gif Seriously, what is up with that?
